The Power of One Word!

Good, bad or indifferent – perhaps many of us can recall that one word someone said that has had lasting impact on our lives. That one word that rings loudly in our mind that inspires or demoralizes us. Words are powerful. Agreed? Oh yeah.

At the beginning of 2019, my spiritual mentor and pastoral coach – Pastor Alan Ahlgrim asked myself and my pastor’s covenant group to read a book entitled ‘One Word’. If I’m being honest, I wasn’t so sure about it…having read many leadership books – here’s another one. But, oh my goodness did the content and focus impact my life and faith. The content of the book focuses on the process of choosing then embracing, owning and living out ‘one word’ that will serve to support, sustain and focus our walk of faith with God for an entire year. It’s much more than a New Year’s resolution that we fail at or forget about by the end of January (or the first week of January – lol). It’s a word that is derived from our personal bible reading, devoting and prayers that God will use to guide us for an entire year. My word for 2019 has been ‘Entrust’ – and oh my goodness have I ever needed, used, embraced, prayed and lived that word this year. Wow! There’s power in one word. After all – Jesus Himself is called ‘Logos’ in Greek meaning ‘Word’ in John 1. Talk about One Word that will change our world. Jesus, God’s ‘Living Logos/Word’ given to us! I trust Him. I entrust myself to Him; do you?

I invite you to join us this Sunday, January 5 as we begin a new four-part series entitled ‘One Word’ as we ask God to give us that ‘One Word’ to lead us as we learn from Him in 2020. God bless you friends. See you this Sunday at 9:30 or 11:15 a.m.

Psalm 143:8, “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.”

Entrusting to God,

Pastor Doug
