We Live What We Believe!

Proverbs 23:7a NKJV, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he…” Truth! What we believe determines what we do and how we live. For example, if we have been told all our life that we are a worthless loser then we will live just like that – a worthless loser. If told we are unwanted, unloved and will not amount to anything then we will live just like that. We will begin to believe it; no rather, we will live it! But, if someone truly believes in us; encourages, values, loves, cheers us on, tells us we can do and be anything we desire then, guess what; we will reach for the stars. There will even be extra pep in our step! Why? What we believe determines what we do and how we live.

Can I share something? Okay, I will! God loves and believes in us! Yes, us! Do we love and believe in Him? I am not sure what difficult life valley we are walking through at the moment. What life pressures, stresses, and demands have beaten down and depleted our belief in God. Effectively causing doubt, fear, worry and yes, unbelief. But in these life moments, I am reminded of a dad in Mark 9 whose son has demon-possessed convulsions. This heart-broken dad has explored all options…visited every doctor and says to Jesus, “If you can do anything…help us!” In Mark 9:23-24 Jesus responds, “‘If you can? Everything is possible for the one who believes.’ Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, ‘I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!'” There it is. An honest, real and raw admission. “Jesus, I believe…but right now, please…help my unbelief!” Okay, we have all been there – correct? Yep. Perhaps there right now. Into which Jesus speaks the same words to us that he told Thomas in John 20:27, “..Stop doubting and believe.”

By and in Jesus’ name, are we certain that everything is possible for us who believe in Him? Truly? Because what we believe determines what we do and how we live. So are we living life; no matter life dishes out, like we truly believe in God? Do we believe in a miracle-working; sea-dividing; mountain-moving; wall-crumbling; giant-killing; against-all-odds; immeasurably more; all things are possible God? “Oh Lord, ” we cry; “I believe! Help me overcome our unbelief.” It is not enough to say we believe; are we living it?

Striving to live what I believe in Jesus’ name,
Pastor Doug
