Choosing Our One Word. Step 3: Live Your Word!

On my desk and I have a small rock with the word ‘Entrust’ written on it. It’s the one word God gave me last year as I read, listened, studied and noticed God repeating Himself, at least to me. Once I discovered that word, I claimed it and began the daily process of living it each day. Entrusting various aspects of my life and faith to God; the good, bad and the in-between. Now, that’s easier said than done. My goodness. But Proverbs 3:5 reminded me, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” God was telling me, “Doug, entrust it to Me.” I’d attempt to and then the ‘take-it-back-syndrome’ would kick in again – spiritually speaking. Do you have that same problem? Now, be honest. God would then remind me of Psalm 143:8b, “…I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.” Boy, did I need that reminder. Again God was saying, “Doug, now come on…entrust this stuff to Me.” Interestingly enough, the more I got on my knees and held out my hands to visualize the ‘entrusting it to God’ process – the situations, while still quite difficult, were a little easier to navigate through. I was able to stand firm in who God was/IS; who I am in God as His child; be still and move on into the difficulty ‘entrusting’ it to God – knowing that I wasn’t alone. God was with me all the way. Now that’s reassuring. Completely! “Doug, entrust it to Me…I’ve got this…trust Me!” I’d then recall Jesus’ words in John 16:33b, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Did I need that reminder?  We all do-agreed? Oh yeah! Entrust it to God…easier said than done, but oh so necessary. God has so used that word to strengthen and deepen my trust in Him. I’m still learning to entrust, but I’m better at it than I previously was.

So, let me ask. What our one God-given word that God will use this year to sustain and support us; to give our life and faith focus? A one word vision or theme that God will use to give us a renewed sense of purpose, power and passion? What word does God seem to be repeating, at least to us? Receive it. Live it. God will use it to grow our faith in Him. I so know that. He’s done this for me. So, right now – let’s stop and pray this short prayer: “Lord God, help me live my word from Your Word in a manner that reflects and honors Your Living Word – Jesus.” Let’s then live our God-given word. We’re not alone. He’s got this.

Love ya friends. Learning to entrust to God,

Pastor Doug
