Choosing Our One Word. Step 2: Discover Your Word!

Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light to my path.” Martin Luther said, “The Word of God is alive, it speaks to me; it has feet, it runs after me; it has hands, it lays hold of me.” What’s our ‘One God-given Word’ to give our life and faith focus?

Trip preparations have been made. We’re all packed and ready to go. Discoveries on our spiritual adventure await finding. We’ve prepared our heart; prioritized and set aside time in our daily schedule to stop, unplug, get alone, be still and listen to God speak to us. (Deep cleansing breath) Asking Him to open our heart to His voice and leading. With our bible, devotional, journal, pen and highlighter ready; having taken a few moments in complete silence – our spiritual adventure of discovery begins. Our prayer: “Lord God, please help me discover a word from Your Word for my life today.” But how? How do we exactly discover that God-given word for us? Prepare; Listen; Read; Notice; Receive. How pray; fast; read our Bible and devotionals; worship; listen to music; talk to friends; journal. As we do so, what ‘One Word’ is God repeating again and again. What ‘One Word’ continues to jump off each page. Notice it. Receive it.

As we do, suddenly each verse we read; song we sing; life event that occurs is suddenly filtered through the lens of that ‘One Word’ – it’s truly amazing. I liken it to when we purchase a new car. Suddenly, what went unnoticed becomes noticed. Suddenly, we notice everyone else driving that same model and make of vehicle. Suddenly, words – verses – phrases – events – life happenings that went unnoticed before become noticed through the lens of the word God has given. For me my word in 2020 is ‘Dwell’. My word last year was ‘Entrust’. And as God would orchestrate it; He gave me two verses this year which encapsulate both words in Psalm 91:1-2, “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.” I’m so grateful! God is telling me, “Doug, entrust this life stuff completely to me. Dwell in; abide, remain, don’t waver, stay put in ME and with ME through it all. I so need that word from my God! So grateful!

What’s your ‘One Word’ for 2020? What word is God repeating to us? Notice it. Receive it. Live it. Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light to my path.”

See you this Sunday at 9:30 and 11:15 a.m. as we set out on our spiritual adventure to discover our God-given word for 2020. God bless you friends.

Entrusting and Dwelling IN my God,

Pastor Doug
