Blocking Satan’s Attacks

James 4:7-8a, “Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”

I don’t know about you, but there are days when as soon as I wake up the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual battle begins on all fronts. Who am I kidding? It keeps me awake at times as Satan targets what I think, say and do. How about you? You as well? Yep. But the question is, how do we block Satan’s relentless attacks? Expect that they will come. Admit our need for divine help. Accept God’s deliverance. That He will make a way of escape. We just need to look for it, then exit – mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually – split, run, flee; take God’s exit strategy. Don’t hang around. As J.I. Packer says, “Opposition is a fact. The Christian who is not conscious of being opposed had better watch himself for he is in danger.” Truth! As Charles Spurgeon said, “Satan doesn’t kick a dead horse.” He’s out to steal, kill and destroy our faith in God. Has he already? I hope not friends. I truly hope not. God is greater, HE truly is.

So again, how do we block Satan’s attacks? As James 4:7-8 lays out: Submit to God. Resist the Devil. Draw Near to God. Satan cannot get in our hearts unless we invite him in. Guess what, neither can Jesus! As Levi Lusko says, “So choose to oppose Satan. Declare war on our sin. Refuse to go gently. Be unstoppable in resolve.” Resist the devil. Remember he has limitations whereas God is limitless and all-powerful. Refuse Satan any opportunity for a foothold. Rebuke him in the name of Jesus. Literally say, “Satan, in the name of Jesus Christ – scram!” Rid ourselves of the thought or action that opposes God, then refill with God. Recall that God will provide a way out. He truly will. Repent, turn back to God. Admit we need help. Accept God’s deliverance. Rally others around us to hold us accountable so we will not return to that self-defeating way of life. Release our struggles to God and renew our sold-out love for Him. Refocus on Jesus. Recite, better yet pray scripture.

Recall that God is greater as 1 John 4:4 says, “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” Then reclaim victory over our deep hurts, bad habit and self-defeating hang-ups in Jesus’ name. Remember that in Christ Jesus, we are overcomers; victorious; indestructible and will defeat Satan. Satan calls us by our sin whereas God calls us by our name – a child of God! Revelation 3:5 says, “He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels.” Now that worth living for friends. Wow! Awe-inspiring! Submitting to God. Resisting Satan. Drawing near to God.

Love you friends. God is with you. We are overcomers.
