18 Nov JR/SR Student Retreat 2015
How strong is your faith? Do you know WHY you believe, WHAT you believe? Why do you believe in Christianity? These are some tough questions right? Imagine being a teenager and trying to answer these…these becomes even harder. For this reason, our student ministry has put together a weekend devoted to help students defend their faith.
This past weekend we took 22 JR/SR High School students to North Florida Christian Camp, and studied the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. We walked through four main sessions during this time, and answered some tough questions like…Why did Jesus have to die? How do we know Jesus died? Why did Jesus have to resurrect? How do we know Jesus resurrected? We also spent some time pouring some leadership type teaching into our students over the course of these three days.
Overall the weekend was a great success. Each student received hand out copies of the material we went over, and were given plenty of time to not only learn about God during our teaching sessions, but they were also given plenty of time to spend alone time with God through personal Bible study. A few highlights from the trip were…
- Hearing students debunk false claims about the resurrection.
- Watching students identify with the resurrection on a faith basis, but also on a logical basis as well. They started to grasp that a resurrected Jesus does indeed make sense.
- Noticing the group’s leadership capacity grow. Not only were these students challenged with apologetics teachings, they were also called up to be the leaders in our student ministry that we know God wants them to be.
- WE HAD FUN! The lessons and teachings were based off of some great material that we can make available upon request, but this was also a trip where students were able to grow closer together. Students had a blast hanging out, playing Ping-Pong, polish pool, basketball, using the slip’n’slide, watching movies, canoeing, and even playing foosball. The most encouraging part of this weekend was watching students pray for each other, and words of encouragement to one another.
I can’t wait to see the impact that this weekend has on our student ministry, and our church abroad. If your student will be a junior or senior next year, make sure they attend this weekend. It’s definitely worth it!
