Doug Reed: Lead Pastor
Doug was born and raised in Lincoln IL and went to college at Lincoln Christian College & Seminary (now Lincoln Christian University). He got his Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministry and a Master of Arts in Pastoral Care & Counseling. As Lead Pastor, Doug loves helps others celebrate with Jesus in a life transforming relationship; connect with God & others and naturally responding as we contribute to the needs of our community! Striving to live out his faith in Jesus every day as 1 Corinthians 11:1 says, “Follow my example as I follow the example of Christ.”
What is interesting about your job? What do you like about it?
I absolutely love watching individuals celebrate awesome God wins in their life! And in turn growing deeper in their relationship with Him.
What do you like to do when your not working/volunteering at CENTRAL?
Spending time with my family; working in my yard, going on walks, fishing, watching NASCAR races and the Chicago Bears; catching a good movie and hanging out with family and friends.
What are your current soundtracks?
Passion Awakening; Hillsong United; the Gladiator and Man From Snowy River soundtracks.
What books are you currently reading?
Not a Fan by Kyle Idleman; The Christian Atheist by Craig Groeschel
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I played the Tuba & Cornet in High School; I also was an offensive & defensive tackle on my H.S. football team.
If you could be any other person or character, who would you be and why?
Most definitely my dad; Jim Reed – I want to be like him when I grow up! His passion and love for life is truly inspiring.
Favorite vacation spot with your family?
Vacationing and visiting our extended family; going to the beach; St. Augustine, FL and Sannibel Island, FL
What was your first job?
Washing dishes and helping with maintenance all summer at my home church camp in Clinton, IL; Little Galilee Christian Assembly
What is your idea of a perfect night of fun?
Going out to a nice restaurant with my wife Val; perhaps catching a movie and then walking on the beach in the early evening as we watch the sun set.
What’s the best thing about having children?
Just loving them; being with them; hanging out; doing life with them; man, what fun! And now, watching them grow up and begin to successfully navigate life on their own with their own relationship with Jesus. Miss them at home but so proud of them!
What’s your favorite CENTRAL moment so far?
Our Love Ocala community outreach event every February & giving out school supplies at our Jumpstart outreach event in August.
What are you most passionate about at CENTRAL?
A true sense of belonging; as we, together, celebrate; connect and contribute; doing life together side-by-side with our Lord.
If you had to write a book about yourself, what would be the title and some potential chapter names?
Just Kidding or better yet Gone Crazy! Couple chapters: Crazy for Christ; Crazy for Others; Crazy for Family…
Share a defining moment in your journey with Christ.
When my dad baptized me; my wedding day; the birth of my kids and then again on a mission trip a few years ago to Egypt. But I would also add; every day is a defining moment and I greatly anticipate watching God move, rescue and deliver as I surrender to Him daily.
To you, what is the most amazing thing about Jesus?
Oh my goodness; His wonderful and amazing love for us in spite of ourselves.
